CNN —Home builder stocks are on a tear, boosted by a jump in demand as some Americans shun the historically tight and unaffordable market for existing housing. The Federal Reserve’s bid to bring down inflation by raising interest rates has sent US mortgage rates soaring over the past year. That’s been a boon to home builder stocks. That helped lift some home builder stocks, though many still slipped in August along with the broader market. So, we decided to throw what we called a “vodka vault party” to encourage people to sample vodka on the terraces. We hired a fabulous bartender and offered the guests vodka tastings from brands such as Anestasia, Barr Hill and Purity. We also hired a DJ, and by the end of the evening, everyone was dancing in their faux fur. The penthouses sold a few months later. Rosenbluth explained that VettaFi is seeing increased interest in actively managed ETFs that are driven by AI. The QRAFT AI-Enhanced U.S. Large Cap Momentum ETF (AMOM), for example, uses an artificial intelligence system to select large-cap stocks for its portfolio. "AMOM is significantly outperforming the iShares momentum ETF (MTUM) ," he said. The AI-driven AMOM rebalances at the end of every month and is up more than 21% this year, while the benchmark MTUM has remained relatively flat in 2023. "'[Momentum ETFs] should benefit from the information that's continually being updated in the marketplace," Rosenbluth said.

CNN —Authorities have received a flood of evidence and information related to the suspect charged in some of the Gilgo Beach killings since his arrest, the Suffolk County District Attorney told CNN on Monday. Authorities have had Heuermann on their radar for more than a year as investigators gathered enough evidence to make an arrest. The suspect’s wife and children are cooperating with the investigation, according to Carter. Authorities later said they believed Gilbert’s death may have been accidental and unrelated to the Gilgo Beach homicides. “We’re going to continue to work this case and work the entire Gilgo investigation,” Carter said.

Investors are hoping that next week's Federal Reserve meeting offers more clarity about the path interest rates could take. Rising interest rates squeeze consumers, while a cut to follow should help boost economic activity. These pricey purchases are often financed, and higher rates mean higher costs. "Even if the sticker price of the thing doesn't change, the interest rate still matters a lot for their monthly budget." The "brakes were hit very hard in 2022," largely due to higher rates on the new-home construction side, he said.

RH, known for selling pricey furniture, says its prices have been "too aggressive" in the past. The CEO says its addressing this by lowering prices in its new collection, RH Contemporary. Analysts say this strategy could help it to woo aspirational shoppers who were priced out. But its newest collection, dubbed "RH Contemporary," will have a "value proposition that will be disruptive across multiple markets," he said. UBS analyst Michael Lasser said its new pricing strategy suggests that the brand is looking to court aspirational shoppers, which it may have alienated by previous price increases, in order to drive growth.

For Diners With Deep Pockets, Dallas Is the New Dubai

At this open-air shopping center in suburban Dallas, they valet-park their Porsches, sport Yves Saint Laurent handbags, flit in and out of Audemars Piguet and pause for brunch at Sadelle’s, the fancy new deli from Major Food Group in New York. Even the sugar for coffee comes to the table in tiny Le Creuset Dutch ovens. Dallas has long had a reputation for living large, an image built on oil money and the wide swaths of ranch land displayed on its namesake TV series. These companies are giving Dallas the kind of attention they’ve previously lavished on tourist playgrounds like Las Vegas and Miami. Major Food Group opened a Dallas branch of its maximalist-Italian restaurant Carbone last year, and says it has even larger ambitions in the city.

More than 43 million Americans together owe $1.6 trillion in student loans. That additional load could weigh on consumer spending, and eventually increase delinquencies on other payments like credit cards and personal loans, strategists said. "We view the resumption of student loan debt payments as an incremental headwind for borrowers and consumer finance companies," BofA said. This, in other words, means the odds of the hotly-anticipated recession are about to go up as consumers divert cash back to student loan payments. Do you have student loans?
